Safe Sauna Use at Sedgeford Hall Estate
At Sedgeford Hall Estate we want every sauna session to be relaxing, restorative and — above all — safe. Heat therapy can offer many physical and mental benefits, but it’s important that sauna use is approached with respect for your body’s limits and current health status.
Please read these guidelines carefully before using the sauna, and consult your GP or healthcare professional if you have any questions or concerns.
Who Should Take Extra Care
Our sauna may not be suitable for everyone. Before entering, please consider the following guidance:
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant, we advise against using the sauna unless you have clearance from your healthcare provider. Pregnant bodies are more sensitive to overheating.
Cardiovascular Conditions
If you have a history of heart disease, high or low blood pressure, angina, or recent cardiovascular events (such as heart attack or stroke), check with your doctor before using the sauna.
Respiratory Issues
Those with asthma, COPD or other breathing difficulties should use caution and seek medical advice prior to sauna use.
Heat Sensitivity & Medical Conditions
Some people naturally have a lower tolerance of heat, and some medications can affect your body’s ability to regulate temperature. Always discuss sauna use with a clinician if unsure.
Infections, Open Wounds & Dehydration
Avoid the sauna if you have active infections, open wounds, or are dehydrated. Heat can exacerbate symptoms and impact healing.
Alcohol & Drug Use
Do not use the sauna after drinking alcohol or taking recreational drugs — this can increase the risk of dehydration and impair your judgement.
General Safety Guidelines
To make your session enjoyable and safe, please adhere to the following recommendations:
Hydrate Well
Drink plenty of water before, during and after sauna use. Staying hydrated helps your body manage heat and reduces the risk of dizziness or fainting.
Time Limits
A typical sauna session should last no more than 15 minutes to begin with — even seasoned users benefit from shorter, repeated sessions rather than one long stay.
Listen to Your Body
If you feel dizzy, nauseous, unwell or excessively uncomfortable at any point, exit the sauna and cool down. Take your time returning to room temperature.
Cool Down Gradually
For best results and comfort, allow your body to cool down slowly after your session; a cool shower or fresh air break helps normalise your temperature.
This guidance is not intended to cover every individual situation. If you have any concerns at all, we recommend speaking with a healthcare professional before enjoying the sauna.
Before and After Your Sauna Session
- Shower before entering — this helps you start your session clean and comfortable. There is a cold water shower available for use.
- Sit on a towel — this keeps benches clean and hygienic. Please bring a towel along with you.
- Avoid heavy meals immediately before using the sauna — digestion and extreme heat can strain your system.
- Do not fall asleep inside the sauna.
Responsible Use & Etiquette
To ensure a safe and pleasant experience for everyone:
- Respect the sauna environment — keep voices low and avoid rowdy behaviour.
- Do not bring glass, metal bottles or flammable materials inside.
- Children should be supervised and only use the sauna with adult guidance.
When in Doubt — Ask
If you are unsure whether sauna use is suitable for you — whether due to health, medication, or other concerns — please consult your GP for personalised guidance.
Thank you for choosing Sedgeford Hall Estate. We hope your sauna experience is both nourishing and safe.
